A few of my friends decided we wanted to take a road trip this summer. No parents, no teachers, no chaperons. Just us in a car with a debit card for a week.

I knew it would be a long shot when I asked my mom, so I’d planned on asking her repeatedly until she said yes.

It went just as expected:

“We don’t have the money, it’s unsafe, you’re too young,” all of which are either solvable problems or non-issues that she insisted were issues.

I left the conversation with her saying “no” and me saying “let’s just drop it for now.”

Now, ten minutes later, she says to me from the couch “I’ll think about it.”

Could my mom actually be accepting that I’m almost a legal adult?
